Music is a form of art. And just like art... to some, a particular form of music is nice. While for others, it makes you question why do people listen to such music.
So I was at Ultra Singapore last weekend for Jay Park and Hyolyn. The article and photos are already up on Officially KMUSIC website. I just completed my article for Dean. Hopefully it'll be up soon.
Anyway, I'm not a fan of EDM. The whole loud bass kinda thing is not my thing. So by the end of the first day, I could not sleep properly because my heart felt some kind of palpitations while I was sleeping. So I didn't had proper sleep even though I was crazily tired from the first day.
It's also my fault for not wearing earplugs. I usually don't use earplugs during events. I know I should before my hearing gets any worse. It's already bad enough. I should really start wearing earplugs. Thank God on the second day I bought earplugs. I could sleep much better, but still... woke up a few times in the middle of the night, because I could feel some palpitations. Just lesser than the previous day.
It's funny now tho. Because ever since I went to UMF, I've been listening to EDM a lot more than usual. The party animal in me is raging. Kidding.
So, some friends texted me that night, asking me how is it possible that I'm always going for concerts and events. Did I pay for it? Is this my job? How did I get this job? I do not really have the perfect answer. But I feel everything that has happened so far is all destiny. Some concerts I do pay for them myself, some are not.
When I told them I was at Ultra Singapore 2016 for Jay Park and Hyolyn, the way some of them reacted got me really pissed. Even some comments people left on KMUSIC's twitter. I happened to read them and they got me pissed. I've heard of these comments way too many time, honestly.
"Ew. Why is KPOP at Ultra?"
"Why do you like KPOP?"
"What's so special about KPOP?"
And the list goes on and on.
I totally understand people who do not like Korean music. I was not a huge fan of it at first. But there's no need to hate on people who like it. Do nothing but let them do them and you do you if you have nothing nice to say.
KPOP, to many, is all about the post-surgery boys and girls in a group. But I can tell you for sure, it's more than that. The moment people hear Korean words in a song, right away it's a KPOP song. But let me tell you, it's not.
Hip Hop? R&B? Dance? Ballads? Classics? EDM? They have it all, just in their language: Korean.
Go YouTube and check them out.
I wish one day the Malays can be like the Koreans. Proud to sing, dance, laugh, eat... basically do everything in our own language. If we're not proud of our own language and culture, then who will?
Whatever it is, I just hope all of us can respect each other's interest and the reason why Korean artists are invited to perform at a lot of events... I believe, it's because of the fans. If you think I'm crazy enough as a fan, there are more crazier ones. These fans help a lot with the publicity of the event which also means.... $$$ coming in. The power of social media is way more powerful than you think.
One thing we all can do is stop hating. EDM is sooooo you? Nice, I like a few songs. Trot is your thing? Good for you. Hip hop is your jam? I love hip hop too. I'm not only saying it for music. But for everything. Because when you stop hating, you will start loving. And when you start loving, that's when you'll find happiness.

I mean even if you hate, does it really benefit you?
